Video editing is the process of selecting segments of video production footage, special effects and sound recordings and arranging them through the use of specialized software. The various elements are organized, condensed, corrected or otherwise modified in order to convey a message or tell a story.
Audio editing involves the selection of various audio recordings and combining them to support the visual elements of a video. An example would be a narrator's voice and musical underscore.
